Good blog post. I bought a couple of these myself from the UK http://www.safe-turn.co.uk & they work really well. The light has a click switch on the top with 15 settings so you can adjust until it works for you. Definately should not be used as your only bike light though! But great for signaling a turn.

How do you know Bicycle NSW are the peak body Jonathon? Last year we walked away after examining the so called Peak Bodies statements you have published above. We finally went to Pedal Power after negotiating with Cycling NSW for BUG coverage. After many months they published a BUG section on their website which was pretty half hearted. Most cyclists I know purchase a bike then ride. They don't join any Peak Body.
One year ago Bicycle NSW didn't know where half the BUG's were. Didn't have a contact address and certainly didn't support them. Since MacBUG moved on to Pedal power we haven't noticed any difference in support for cycling in Macarthur or anywhere else for that matter. We did have a speaker from the Peak Body come out to address a transport forum earlier this year but he spoke on riding to school and mentioned Ride To Work Girls. It's one thing to be a Peak Body and another to call yourself one. We simply couldn't handle throwing money away by paying membership fees for lack of service. Now we simply ride which is what its all about.

Thanks for the tip Paul. I have written another post on the issue and as you will see I took up your suggestion and used Probikekit. You are right about the range of gear on the internet. I hope you enjoy the follow up post

I do love the LBS but its hard to go past the big reductions online. By the way, the postage from Probikekit is AUD$9.99 these days. Also I find it hard to find some products in the LBS whereas online....

Jon while I agree that "road rules apply to cyclists as they do motorists".
I regret to inform you that you have told us a little more about your knowlledge (and that of other motorists) of the Australian Road Rules, than what you intended in your comment. For staters The NSW road rules which incorporate the Australian Road Rules - found on the RTA website state "Under NSW legislation a bicycle is considered as a vehicle. As such, cyclists are required to obey the road rules, including stopping at red lights or Stop signs, Giving Way as indicated by signage and giving hand signals when changing direction. Just as cyclists have responsibilities when using the road system, they also have the right, like other vehicles, to use the road and be shown courtesy and care by other road users. Cyclists also have some special rights, which include:
Riding two abreast, no more than 1.5 m apart
Travelling to the front of a line of traffic on the left hand side of the stopped vehicles
Travelling in Bus Lanes and Transit Lanes."
I hope this sets you streight for further information see http://www.rta.nsw.gov.au/roadsafety/bicycles/cyclingrules.html

Hi,

Cyclists and motorists share the road. Cyclists are just as bad as motorists.

Unfortunately, bikes and bones break easier than cars.

Its time cyclists accept responsibility alongside motorists - the law states bikes should be ridden single file and that all road rules apply to cyclists as they do motorists. Being both a cyclist and motorist, Im extremely conscious of this and surprised other cyclists arent - will 10 cyclists stop a car running into the group without injury???

Where is the road rule test before you get on your bike anbd ride off?

When will the governments stop building roads and start on integrated connecting bike paths...
